After attending the World Congress of Veterinary Dermatology in Boston USA  in July and speaking to the guys from Aesculight Vetscalpel Inc. at their stand in the commercial exhibition, I decided to purchase the Vetscalpel CO2 laser, which will open up a whole new world of treatment possibilities that I can offer clients and referring vets.  I decided to purchase the machine as  I am seeing more and more cases of Chronic Pododermatitis and Interdigital Furunculosis (CPIF) otherwise incorrectly known as  “Interdigital  Cysts” and this machine allows me to remove all the diseased tissue safely and offers the the hope of a cure to this painful and debilitating condition.  There are only two dermatologists including myself in England and Wales who have this machine, which is a pity. The cost is probably prohibitive for many (£45,000), but currently a lot of cases in England and Wales have to go up to Scotland to one of two referral centres that have this machine to have the surgery called “laser podoplasty” done.

I will also be using it with my video otoscope as it offers some advantages compared the diode laser that I have been using for the last 4 years in the treatment of Feline Cystamatosis and removal of other lesions and tumours from the ear canal.
